SWiFT-MLP: Workshop on Semi-Automated Workflows for Facilitating Multimodal Language Processing
Organizers: Dr. Esam Ghaleb and Sho Akamine
Sponsor: Multimodal Language Department, Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics
Date: 8 September 2026 (co-located with MMSYM 2026, 9–11 September 2026)
Location: Leuven, Belgium
Max participants: 20
Application deadline: 30 April 2026
About the workshop: SWiFT-MLP is a hands-on workshop on practical, reproducible workflows for analyzing multimodal communication. It is designed for researchers and students working with audio/video data who want to use new technology to facilitate speech and gesture annotation and analyze gesture kinematics. The workshop covers semi-automated pipelines for extracting body keypoints using MediaPipe, segmenting manual gestures, transcribing speech using WhisperX, exporting annotations to common analysis tools such as Praat and ELAN, and analyzing machine learning representations of gesture and speech.
